Wet Weather Options (Plan B)

Outdoor weddings on beaches, vineyards or gardens provide a beautiful natural backdrop when making those all important vows to each other. When planning an outdoor wedding, the weather plays an important role, however, you can't 'book' fine weather to make sure the day runs smoothly. It is important to consider what you will do if you end up with a blowing gale or driving rain on the day!

There are two important things to do when planning your outdoor wedding:

Firstly, check the weather forecast leading up to the day. Knowing in advance what the weather is likely to be will give you more time to change plans if the weather isn't looking good.

Secondly, include a wet weather option on your guest invitations. That way you won't have to inform all your guests at the last minute of a change of venue or plans.

There are a number of things you can do for wet weather options:

Book a separate indoor venue "just in case". This can be expensive though if you end up having to pay for the venue regardless of whether you use it. Another option is to organise with the venue where you are planning to hold your reception or wedding breakfast to see if they could have the wedding there in case of bad weather. Most venues are happy to help.

Bring lots of umbrellas! If the weather looks 'touch and go' or it is not that wet, umbrellas can be fun and can look good on photos. Buying umbrellas that match your wedding colour scheme will add to the magic.

You can rent a marquee. If you know the weather is going to be bad, but you are set on your wedding location, a marquee is a good way to provide your guests with protection without changing venues. Most marquees will allow you to take off the sides so that you are left with a canopy that protects your guests and still allows you to see the surrounding view.

The more thought and preparation you put into Plan B, the less likely you are to be stressed on the day, watching the sky hoping for sunshine!
