Dr Kim Jewel Elliott AC JP

A little about me:
A warm, skilled, experienced professional, I will provide a contemporary and considered input into your special day.

My philosophy as a Celebrant is to support you as my client in having the ceremony that you would like. I am a:

  • Registered marriage celebrant

  • Registered civil union celebrant

  • Justice of the Peace for New Zealand

  • Member of the Celebrants Association of New Zealand

  • Formal and informal Mentor to other Celebrants

  • Accredited celebrant, meaning I have been certified as practicing to the highest professional celebrant standards. Although there are over 2000 celebrants in New Zealand, currently only 26 are accredited nationwide.

As well as a friendly and calm personality, multiple payment options and exquisite 100% recycled stationery as a gift to you, I bring a unique package of desirable skills to my work. My background as an academic means I will write and craft your ceremony swiftly and thoroughly, speak confidently, articulately and on topic! An artist's daughter, I've also had the good fortune to grow up around creativity and creative people. I'd be delighted to make your ceremony as unique and personal to you as you want it to be. Alongside my familiarity with traditional urban settings, I enjoy nature, so if you want to hike into the bush to hold your ceremony under your favourite waterfall or sail to marry on the crater's edge of White Island, just ask! I am also well grounded in the creation and delivery of Interfaith ceremonies, having trained and registered to perform marriages in New York as well as NZ. Delighted to organise witnesses for you and marry you in my home (or anywhere) if you are eloping.

Funerals:
With a background in youth work and the experience of losing my own son pre-birth, I am often asked to officiate at funerals for babies, children and young people, as well as people throughout their life stages. My community counselling work supports me in providing safe funeral services for those who have suicided. I also hold expertise in the unique process of Living Funerals, where a person aware of their terminal illness chooses to have a service before their passing, enabling them to participate in the celebration and honouring of their own life.

Weddings & Civil Unions:
The majority of my Celebrant work involves facilitating weddings and civil unions, and I delight in doing so. It is a joy and a privilege to stand with you and celebrate your commitment and happiness. I have performed ceremonies on cliff-tops, mountains, beaches, islands, boats, urban roof gardens, in historic homes, exclusive lodges, golf resorts, clubs, marae, private residences, parks, hospitals, rest homes, chapels, hotels, restaurants, vineyards, zoos, museums, art galleries and an Air NZ plane! Anywhere, any time you want to celebrate your relationship works for me!

My approach:
I enjoy working in relationships of mutual respect with my clients and want everyone involved to feel good about both the process and the ceremony itself. I believe in what I do and am expert at it. Ethical and excellent practice underpins all my work, as does the value of relationship. In all aspects of ceremony development and delivery I will work with you to ensure that together we create a beautiful piece of history in your journey as a couple. Am happy to provide complete media blackout and confidentiality agreement as required.

My peaceful villa is located just a skip and a jump from the Greenlane motorway offramp and train station, making it easy for clients who wish to come meet me at my home office, by car or train. And easy for me to travel and marry you anywhere in beautiful Aotearoa!

Celebrant fees and payment options:
There is no extra charge for my Celebrant services on public holidays, midnight/dawn ceremonies etc. To support both my clients and the planet I offer Traditional or Sustainable payment options. This means you choose how you wish to pay for my celebrant work; either via cash/cheque/e-banking or sustainably with skills or service of the same monetary value. Discounted fee for ceremonies in Cornwall Park, as it is such a short walk from my home!

In brief I will:
  • Meet you at a time and location workable for both of us
  • Provide you with a number of references from recent clients.
  • Conduct a free Auckland rehearsal (wedding and civil unions only) with you and your party.
  • Ensure your ceremony is delivered to your wishes - no unsolicited surprises!
  • Match the colour and style of my attire to the theme of your event.
  • Provide you with an exquisite, custom-designed Memory Folder on the day which includes a copy of your own personal ceremony.

I happily perform ceremonies all over New Zealand.

Kim made our ceremony an absolute breeze! She was the first celebrant we met with and knew straight away she was for us. She took time to listen to what we wanted and to get an understanding of our relationship and from this she crafted the perfect ceremony that suited us to a T. She helped us pick snippets for our own personal vows and what came out were better than we could have imagined. The amount of comments we got on our wedding day on how brilliant our vows were was amazing and that was all down to Kim. I would recommend Kim to anyone planning a wedding - her warmth and love for these occasions will add something really special to your day.

We just want to say a big Thank You for being such a big part of our wedding day. Kim, with her pleasant clear voice and friendly personality, is very easy to get along with. From our first meeting, Kim listened to what was important to us and then worked with us to develop a ceremony which we were very happy with. She was always easy to get in touch with, guiding us through the whole process until our wedding day. Kim took time to do a rehearsal with us, so things ran very smoothly on the big day. Thank you so much, Kim!
